AISHO Tokyo is honoured to announce French artist Mario Picardo’s first solo exhibition “Ghosts and Lights” in Japan — the show will be taking place from 22 Nov to 21 Dec, 2024.

" Ghosts and Lights, " the latest canvas series Picardo brings to AISHO Tokyo presents his complex relationship with Japanese culture. His passion for drawing began at the age of three, encouraged by his father to trace images from the classic Chilean comic strip series "Condorito." With the rise of Japanese manga and anime in France in 1990s, the artist is influenced by iconic series such as "City Hunter," "Dragon Ball Z," and "Saint Seiya," leading him to explore traditional Japanese prints Ukiyo-e, and the works of renowned artists like Keiichi Tanaami, Tadanori Yokoo, Yokoyama Taikan and more.

Picardo has gained inspirations from Japanese culture, however he has lever stepped on the land. As he articulates, this series is "a tribute to a sister who is significant in my life and artistic journey, despite never having met her." Through this series, Picardo aims to convey his emotions and a dreamlike exploration of Tokyo.
